Engineering Manager

THE BACKGROUND

Our client is one of the world’s  leading beverage can suppliers and are the only beverage can maker with a company-owned technical and manufacturing facility devoted to working with customers to design, specify and create a beverage can.
The company are business partner to some of the worl’s most famous and successful consumer brands as well as young, entrepreneurial star-ups. 
With an annual turnover of about 4,6 Billion £, the group serves customers across 23 countries ,has  over 30 can plants and employs  circa  24.000 people worldwide.
Our client is now looking  for Engineering Manager for Italian plant located  in Verona area.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Engineering Manager reports directly to the Plant Manager and is assisted by an Engineering Supervisor and Electrical Supervisor.  He/She is responsible for planning, directing and managing the engineering operation to ensure maximum efficiency from all equipment and services by means of preventative maintenance and continuous improvements and modifications to equipment and methods.  He/She is responsible for complying with all statutory regulations.

THE POSITION
Principle Accountabilities

·         Manufacturing support and equipment maintenance

·         Ensuring the maximum efficiency from all equipment and services by means of preventative maintenance

·         All services and buildings including the safe storage of inflammable or dangerous materials and ensuring compliance with safety  legislation and the factories act

·         Maintaining plant register and statutory registers

·         Ensuring a 24 hour coverage for emergencies

·         Acting on own authority and initiative on day to day maintenance and repairs

·         Continued improvements an modifications

·         Improvements to all equipment (mechanical and electrical), processes and buildings

·         Execution of all plant engineering projects from the start to completion. All equipment must be running at the agreed production rate to the standard required before handing to manufacturing

·         Reviewing manufacturing performance to enable experience and knowledge of  equipment to be used for modification of current and future equipment

·         Keeping abreast of any new equipment or processes that are relative to our particular industry

·         Reduction of operating costs

·         Controlling all engineering costs within agreed budget costs

·         Ensuring that the most competitive quotations are obtained for all engineering purchases and  that  purchasing decisions are made on the best price/quality ratio in the company's interests

·         Maintaining an adequate stockholding of spares and a system for issues and stock control

·         Supplying administration department with a breakdown of labour and material costs for all capital and C&A RFAs.

·         Compiling budgets for capital projects and engineering expense with assistance from Head Office Engineering department.

·         Checking and ensuring that tooling drawings are to the standard required prior to placing of actual orders for manufacture and the introduction of outside manufactured tooling into production, modifying if necessary to ensure results are to company standards

·         Recruiting, selecting and, where necessary, training all engineering staff

·         Monitoring and assessing contract work to ensure results are to the required company standards

·         Selecting all apprentices and monitoring progress

·         Project work as required

THE CANDIDATE.

Competencies & Skills

 

·         Degree in Engineering/Technical discipline

·         Preferably a post-graduate diploma (MBA, Msc Manufacturing science)

·         Problem solving/total quality skills

·         Manufacturing background in a high speed, high volume continuous process

·         Successful track record in man management

·         Good understanding of modern lean manufacturing techniques – SMED, Kaizen 5S, Kanban, Structured Problem solving, TPM/OEE, SPC, 6 Sigma etc

·         Proven record of achievement

·         A Management style heavily orientated to training and coaching

·         Good computer skills – ability to manage via computerised data

·         Fluent English

 

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will include a base salary, bonus, laptop, life/accident insurance.
